Champion Hamp

A Heavy Hitter-sired barrow took Champion Hamp at the 2012 Gas Capitol Show in Hugoton, Kansas on Saturday, May 5th. This barrow is owned, and shown, by Dandi Thomas of Elkhart, Kansas.

Heavy Hitter-sired pigs won both Champion slots in the Hamp division at the Gas Capitol Show. Thomas took Champion Hamp honors, and Ashley Minor of Ulysses, Kansas, took Reserve Champion Hamp with her Crane-bred pig.

Both of these pigs were purchased from Crane Show Pigs, on-the-farm, this Spring.

Congrats to both the Thomas and Minor-Rippert families!

Grand Champion - 2012 Little American Royal

2012 Little American Royal
More than 300 pigs were entered in this show, AND....

Overall Grand Champion was won by Abigail Reinick and her Crane-bred pig. This pig was also the Champion Dark Cross. Abby purchased this pig from Crane Show Pigs at the 2012 Winner's Circle Sale in Douglas, Wyoming.

But, wait that's not all for Miss Reinick....she also won Champion Light Cross with another Crane-bred pig.  And, to top off an already fabulous day, Reinick won yet another class with a Crane-bred Cross.

Three Crane-bred pigs - three class winners - two Champions - one Overall Grand Champion...and that is just for Abigail Reinick!

Aaron Hamilton kept up his winning streak at the Little American Royal, with his Crane-bred York gilt. They took home the Reserve Champion York title.

This duo won Champion York honors last weekend at the 2012 NJC Aggies Jackpot Show in Sterling, CO. This York gilt is out of 'Honeymoon' (a Grimm's Gem daughter) and Starbuck.

Aaron later came back in the ring, and won the Lightweight Hamp class with his other Crane-bred pig. This flashy Hamp gilt was overlooked by most farm visitors this Spring, so kudos to the Hamilton family for recognizing that she was a diamond in the making!

Not to be outdone...5-year-old Abi Lemon showed in her first pig show, with 'Maximus', her Crane-bred Hamp barrow. They took 2nd place honors in the Heavyweight Hamp class (Note: this pig is a littermate to Abigail Reinick's Champion Light Cross).

No photo of Abi showing. But just had to share this snapshot from this Spring.

Congrats to Abigail, Aaron and Abi for an A+ day in the showring!

Champion - Houston Livestock Show Barrow Carcass Contest

Just got word today that a Crane-bred pig won the 2012 Houston Livestock Show's Barrow Carcass Contest! This pig was shown by Steleigh Thompson of Tulia, Texas. You may remember this duo from our earlier posts...this pig won Class 4 - Lightweight Hamps at this year's Houston Livestock Show.

RAIL: Champion Barrow Carcass - 2012 Houston Livestock Show
RING: Class Winner - Class 4 - Lightweight Hamps
What does a Champion Carcass title mean?
For some breeders, a carcass title isn't much....as it doesn't give you a banner, a trophy, or a flashy photo to use for advertising.

But, for Crane Show Pigs it is a BIG DEAL.
It just goes to prove - once again - that our pigs are the REAL DEAL.
These pigs are full of muscle, the result of outstanding genetics... and not from man-made products.

Crane-bred pigs have what it takes to compete in both the ring, AND the rail.

Last year, a Crane-bred pig took home Reserve Champion honors in the 2011 San Antonio Livestock Show's Carcass Contest. That pig, was the Division Champion - Lite Crossbreds, and was shown by Daniel Poage of Levelland, Texas.

RING: Division Champion - Lite Crossbreds
Carcass Contest Results: HERE
Carcass results for the 2012 Houston Livestock Show's contest are determined by Texas A&M University. You can see the full results, HERE - including how this Crane-bred pig stacked up against the show's Grand and Reserve Champion market barrows.

The Champion Carcass data is from the Texas A&M Meat Lab website:
